Overview

This adorable book is the second in the series of the beloved children’s books, Kuma-Kuma Chan, The Little Bear.

When a boy receives an invitation in the mail from Kuma-Kuma Chan, a friendly bear who lives far away, he travels by train, bus, and finally on foot to reach Kuma-Kuma Chan’s home. Kuma-Kuma Chan welcomes him and serves tea. Even though the two don’t have a lot to talk about, just by spending time together, sharing the day’s activities they bond and create a friendship and enjoy each other’s company. This heartwarming tale once again immerses children of all ages, in Kuma-Kuma Chan’s peaceful, simple world.

Reviews

"It is also one of those books that will be read together with a favorite adult, then read again and again as the child memorizes the story word-for-word." —Suzanne Costner, The Fairview Review

"A book that offers peace and stability to its audience. I can easily imagine my little boy calmly listening and settling to this one." —Methmini Costa, picksandreadsforkids.com

"Kuma-Kuma Chan's incredibly simple and peaceful world will charm people of all ages. The double page spreads in this small book are free from distractions and Takahashi's adorable illustrations complement the simple but contemplative narrative." —Rosanna Montanaro, rosannadesu.com

"This would make a good bedtime book. It's low key and a pleasant story which should make it easy for them to transition into sleep." —Jo Ann Hakola, bkfaerie.blogspot.com

"The portrayal of such a visit rings true, acknowledging moments of uncertainty and offering a model for what to notice and how to navigate silence. The first-person account, told from the friend's perspective, is quietly affectionate and descriptive, never judgmental. With an invitingly small trim size and easy-to-track action, this title can be perused by pre-readers employing their narrative skills independently or shared with a loved one for an interlude of calm and contentment." —Kirkus Reviews

"This follow-up is delightful in many of the same ways as its predecessor: the small trim size is perfect for tiny hands; our main character, Kuma-Kuma Chan (a thumbprint-looking bear), is endearing; and the spare story celebrates the act of slowing down and spending time with a friend." —Julie Danielson, Kirkus Reviews

"True friendship flows without much ado, and brings a quiet joy to one’s being. In a day cluttered with political correctness, it’s a comfort to find such a friend as Kuma-Kuma Chan, who only desires your presence." —Darleen Wohlfeil, Story Monsters Ink

"A perfect little book to keep on personal library shelves for those times when companionship—and cuteness—is needed." —Kathy, celebratepicturebooks.com
